Emporia - Trophies Galore

With travel time of only 50 minutes, the KSU debate team performed at the Emporia Tournament with a home-field advantage. Winning 3rd place in both JV and Varsity, the squad continued success throughout the mid-west region.

Gloria Funcheon and Nikki Marcotte were in the semifinals of Junior Varsity. Gloria was also the 6th speaker. Gloria has won a speaker award at every tournament she attended this year....kudos.

John Grice and Jordan Hanson lost on a 2-1 decision in a Varsity octofinals debate against the University of Central Oklahoma. The dissenting judge vosciferously pronounced the other two judges as idiotic decision-makers in that particular debate. More importantly, they understood that they had the ability to compete against even the best.

Beth Mendenhall and Derek Ziegler advanced all the way to the semifinals of Varsity. On their way they defeated teams from North Texas and Wichita State before losing to a very successful 5th year senior. Beth was also recognized as the 5th overall individual speaker at the tournament in Varsity.
